Open Auditions

Regular auditions will be held Tuesday Aug. 25th, Saturday Aug. 29th and Tuesday, September 1st, or on other dates by special arrangement. Anyone interested should contact Warren Puffer Jones at (734)730-0160 or auditions@a2cantatasingers.org) to set up a time.

More Information

Specializing in innovative programming and historical singing styles, the group has openings in all sections for experienced choral singers with good musical skills and an enthusiasm for participating in an active and dynamic musical organization.

Prospective members are invited to email auditions@a2cantatasingers.org for more information and to schedule an audition.

The auditions will consist of:

  • Prepared piece of your own choosing (accompanist provided)
  • Scales to determine range
  • Interval identification and/or Sight reading

Rehearsals are held 7-9pm every Tuesday evening at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 420 W. Liberty. Additional rehearsals will be announced throughout the season.

What We Offer

In return for your commitment and energy we offer you the opportunity to sing with one of the most exciting and innovative choral groups in Ann Arbor.

Each season we explore significant new repertory and revisit some of the old choral masterpieces with a fresh and historically informed approach. The professional soloists and instrumentalists with whom we collaborate are among the finest in the area.

AACS produces several concerts annually. When you audition to join the choir, we assume that you are committing to an entire season of singing, and preference will be given to those members who will sing in all of the concerts. However, we know that everyone's life does not always fit choir calendars, and we are open to discussion about your scheduling needs. While we do audition people throughout the year if there are openings, the majority of our auditions are held during the summer when all members re-audition and when all seats are open. Joining the choir at a later date will depend upon the discretion of the Musical Director.

Dues and Expenses

Dues are currently $50 per half-season and are payable by the end of September. Members must have a black choral music folder for all performances. Membership dues are a necessary means to help support our musical goals and are used to fund rehearsal venues, our accompanist and a portion of the Musical Director's time.

Dues for students are reduced.

Concert Dress

Women - Dressy all black, ankle-length, long-sleeved dress or skirt ensemble, 18" white or cream pearl necklace, black hosiery & black dress shoes.

Men - Black tuxedo/black suit, black bow tie, white shirt, black socks, black dress shoes.

No perfume or cologne, please!
