Music Director of the Ann Arbor Cantata Singers

The Ann Arbor Cantata Singers, a locally based chamber choir of about thirty singers admitted by audition, is seeking applications for the part-time position of Music Director beginning with the fall 2012 season. We are in our 51st year of offering high quality musical performances in Ann Arbor and in surrounding communities, typically presenting three different programs a season. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Music Director with a comprehensive knowledge of the choral literature and with a willingness to challenge the choir.

The duties of our Music Director include:

Conducting concerts and weekly rehearsals;
            Selecting vocal soloists;
            Programming concerts;
          Determining rehearsal schedules;
            Identifying and developing grant proposals;
            Selecting rehearsal and concert venues;
            Working with our librarian to obtain scores;
            Serving as ex officio member of our board;
            Attending fundraising events;
            Being a public spokesperson for the Ann Arbor Cantata Singers.

The position of Music Director runs from September through April, sometimes into May. Our total operating budget is approximately $20,000 per year, with income from ticket sales, program ads, member dues, and volunteer contributions. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. We anticipate interviewing candidates during March and inviting our finalists to guest conduct a rehearsal the Cantata Singers. We further anticipate making the final selection of a new Music Director no later than early May.
